When massive, open online courses emerged several years ago, people were excited about the possible democratization of education. But there was something missing from the online course format that had a big impact on their effectiveness: we forgot that people learn best with others, not alone in front of their computers.
After launching an international design and technology school, Benji’s founder, Matt Parson, saw first hand how in-person, instructor-led, education can be cost-prohibitive for many and the only alternative ,online courses, had shockingly low retention rates (<5%) and poor learning outcomes.
The big question that launched Benji was what if immersive face-to-face education was accessible as online learning? That’s the idea that motivated Matt to found Benji.
